Yes, this is an Art. So if you have some sort of talent to work with your hands you are in the right track to unleash all your potential.

What is SugarCrafting ?
Some people call it, the art of creating sculptures made of sugar or cake decorating dough. It is really becoming the next big thing in cake making and desserts making competitions worldwide, chances are you already know some people into this.
It is about creating realistic and artistic looking cakes for all occasions, some are so realistic they look like live animals, live people or even interesting contraptions.
It’s a three dimensional cake decorating art, usually it uses fondant of many different colors to cover cakes and create all the different structures. Down below I’ll explain how to make the fondant and the different doughs yourself at home.

How to make sugar paste/fondant ?
Fondant is a fancy world and you know it !
It can also be called cake decorating dough, ready to roll icing, sugar cover for cakes or sugar paste. You could go out there and buy it yourself, if you continue reading down here you’ll be able to do it yourself with this simple recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon glycerine
- 7 cups confectioners’ (powdered or icing) sugar
- ⅓ cup and 2 tablespoons shortening (vegetable fat or white margarine) such as Crisco, Wooden Spoon, Trex or Copha
- 1 tablespoon gelatin granules or powder
- 2 tablespoons water
- ⅓ cup light corn syrup
- ¾ cup white baking chocolate or candy melts, chopped (optional)
- ½ teaspoon fine table salt
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice or a few drops of clear vanilla essence
- Food coloring (optional)
- Extra shortening or non-stick cooking spray
Are you ready to mess it up in your kitchen ?
- Set all the ingredientes apart, keep them in separate bowls so they are handy and ready to mix.
- Get the shortening and heat it up in the microwave at full power for 40 seconds, the idea here is to melt it.
- Heating the mix of water and gelatin granules for 20 seconds in the microwave is the trick here.
- Mix Mix Mix, glycerine, salt, light corn syrup and the optional chocolate with the melted gelatin and KaBoooommmm.
- You could heat a bit more until the mix is smooth.
- Then you are ready to add any natural coloring or flavors you might like.
- Do the Mixing again. So take the preparation and mix it with the sugar.
- From here is up to you, roll up your sleeves or use the mixing machine to produce a soft dough.
- Store it away and you’ll be ready to do some decorations.
